Yasutaka Nakata, kz, tofubeats and banvox Slay Ultimate Sold-out Show “YYY” Vol.0.5: After Report
WARNER MUSIC JAPAN and J-pop culture power team ASOBISYSTEM paired up to kick off the ultimate live/party entitled “YYY” on January 24. With many more volumes on the line, this rendition was named Vol. 0.5, and was held at SOUND MUSEUM VISION in Shibuya.
The party invited an amazing selection of chart-topping DJs/producers: Yasutaka Nakata (CAPSULE), kz (livetune), tofubeats, and banvox — easily selling out tickets in minutes. With only a couple tickets available at the door, many fans lined up at the door in hopes of winning that last ticket in.
The venue was packed from when the doors swung open — with visuals playing on the screen, banvox appeared on stage as the first runner up. With 9 screens plastered across the venue, visuals and lazers were thrown around the area and heightened the rave right from the start.banvox kicked it off with “New Style,” which currently plays for the Google Android ad.
Next up was kz（livetune）who kicked off the set with his signature track “Tell Your World feat. Hatsune Miku,” mashing it up with a track by Porter Robinson. From EDM to tracks with vocals, he kept the audience hooked for what he had next in line, offering a treasure box full of various dance music tracks. The set headed to a finish with Yano Anna making an appearance for his final track, where she performed the tracks produced for livetune+, a collab between livetune and Yano Anna formed last year.
The third to come up on stage was tofubeats who just released his 2nd major album “POSTIVE,” readily offering some omatsuri vibes off of the album to shake up the venue. His following track “STAKEHOLDER” mashed up KOHH’s rapping in the intro, and kept it rolling with remixes incorporating his garage and vogue styles, stringing them together as if a megamix. The party had reached way above its height by then.
Right around mid-set, he took the mic in his hands and busted out his anthemic “Asadan” and “Disco no Kamisama.” Having the crowd come as one amidst a huge sing-along, he then got his “whistle techno” going, letting fans fall in love with the club scene all over again.
Last but definitely not the least — the party was headlined by the one and only, Yasutaka Nakata from CAPSULE. The set kicked off in ode to tofubeats’ fresh album — his track on “POSITIVE” remixes, “POSITIVE feat. Dream Ami – Nakata Yasutaka (CAPSULE) REMIX.”
An opportunity to listen to the tofubeats x Nakata play out with the two of them right next to each other doesn’t come around often. What followed were tracks by CAPSULE, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Perfume, making the venue go haywire. It goes without say that the madness of “YYY Vol. 0.5″ made it hard to believe this was only a launch party and fans were already stamping their feet in excitement with the announcement of “YYY Vol. 1″ slated for this summer.
Just remember this — once you’re in, you’ll be in it for the long run. Keep a tab on YYY’s official site for more details.
